The problem of emotional intelligence is a fairly urgent problem in psychological research, and therefore there is a wide range of approaches in the interpretation of this concept and in the description of its key components. The phenomenon of emotional intelligence is becoming one of the most discussed issues, while many questions concerning its conceptual field have not yet been found convincing answers. The problem of mental health and development of older preschool children undoubtedly attracts the attention of modern psychologists.

In addition, it is known that the social situation of development is the main factor in the development of the child's psyche, including the main factor in the development of the child's psychomotor and cognitive abilities. The article discusses the general principles and principles of research and diagnosis of children's emotional intelligence, shows the specifics of diagnostic work with older preschool children, and presents the results of an experimental study of the emotional intelligence of older preschool children. In the course of the study, a set of psychological techniques was put into practice, which the authors propose to use as diagnostic tools for the emotional intelligence of older preschool children.
