The article provides a comprehensive examination of the relationship between the level of perfectionism and emotional distress among students. The research aims to determine the impact of perfectionistic personality traits on the psychological well-being and stress levels of students. The theoretical section analyzes the multidimensional structure of the concept of perfectionism, its adaptive and maladaptive types, as well as cognitive and interpersonal mechanisms (Hewitt & Flett, 2017). The empirical section utilized Hewitt and Flett's Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS) and the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10). The research results revealed a statistically significant positive correlation between the students' levels of perfectionism and emotional distress (r = 0,46 ** (p < 0,01)). This demonstrates that high perfectionistic strivings can increase students' emotional distress and adversely affect their psychological state, indicating that the level of perfectionism is directly related to their level of emotional distress. High perfectionism leads to self-imposed pressure, anxiety, and emotional exhaustion. The obtained results highlight the relevance of organizing psychological support and preventive programs in higher education institutions and allow for the development of practical recommendations for fostering students' emotional resilience.
