This article focuses on the adaptation of the “Need for Cognition Scale” (NCS), developed by John Cacioppo and Richard Petty, into the Kazakh language, as well as the assessment of its validity and reliability. The study involved 187 residents of Almaty aged 17 to 55. The inclusion criterion for the Kazakh-speaking sample was the language in which participants completed secondary school. Official approval for conducting the research was obtained from the local ethics committee of the Faculty of Medicine and Healthcare at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The main aim of the study was to adapt the Kazakh-language version of the “Need for Cognition Scale” for the local population and to apply the obtained data in psychophysiological research, including the analysis of relationships between brain development and aging, cognitive functions, and genetic markers.

Survey data were processed using IBM SPSS 23. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated, and the internal consistency and validity indicators were examined. The results demonstrated that the Kazakh-language version of the NCS shows an acceptable level of internal consistency. The obtained Cronbach’s alpha value indicates that the scale can be reliably used in further scientific research
