Abstract

The article analyses communicative competence as an essential component of the professional development of students specializing in psychology.  Acquiring professional status in this field demonstrates the development of a number of psychological competencies, among which communicative competence occupies a central place. This competence embraces mastery of both verbal and non-verbal communication methods, as well as the ability to effectively set in motion and maintain interpersonal interactions. One of the main goals of the study is to conduct an  evidence-based study of the characteristics of communicative competence as a fundamental element of the formation of professional  self-concept psychologists. A number of psychodiagnostic techniques were used to assess key indicators of communicative competence, professional orientation and motivation for future professional activity. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods was used to analyze the data. The study sample included 72 undergraduate students enrolled in the Psychology program Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov. The study was conducted in two stages. At the first stage, the participants' communicative competence was assessed, which made it possible to divide the sample into three subgroups depending on the level of development of communicative competence. At the second stage, the main focus was on studying the characteristics of professional motivation and attitudes towards independent professional growth among students with different levels of communicative competence. The data earned indicate that individuals who show a high level of communicative capability demonstrate stronger intrinsic motivation within the framework of professional motivation compared to their peers with an average or low level of competence. This points to the fact that such students attach great importance to their future profession as a personal value.Furthermore, they сonfirms a clear understanding of their future professional roles and demonstrate a clear professional orientation, which contributes to their overall professional development.
