A family-oriented approach is becoming increasingly widespread in the practice of social work with families of children with disabilities. However, there are various problems faced by families raising children with disabilities, ranging from insufficient financial support for families, discrimination from society to psychological stress and stress. Each child is different, therefore, the situation with each family is unique. And this, in turn, implies an individualized approach on the part of specialists, taking into account the analysis of available resources and necessary needs.
The article examines the barriers faced by families raising children with disabilities and factors affecting the quality of competence and well-being of the child.
Taking into account various factors, families, with the support of social workers and other specialists, can determine their own resources and needs in order to develop their own effective rehabilitation strategies within the framework of an individual work plan for each family with a child. The joint efforts of social workers, as well as family members, help the child to adapt better to the environment, achieve the highest possible quality of life, and live a full life as a member of society on an equal basis with everyone. And the relationship between specialists and parents should be based on joint decision-making, support, communication, provision of information, analysis and use of resources.
