Statistics on the identification of autism spectrum disorder is growing every year. The appearance of a child with an autism spectrum disorder is a great stress for the whole family, which affects all areas of their lives. Often, it is the mother who takes care of and looks after a child with an autism spectrum disorder. Mothers are under constant stress and experience emotional tension. The purpose of this study was to diagnose the emotional sphere of mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder in order to identify individual characteristics of their emotional state and indicate the importance of providing them with psychological assistance. Questionnaires for express diagnostics of the emotional sphere were used: the Beck depression scale, the Beck anxiety scale, the positive and negative affect scale adapted by E.N. Aspen, author's questionnaire, method for determining the dominant state (short version of DM-6), developed by L.V. Kulikov. The results of the study correlate with foreign studies that mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder show signs of severe depression and anxiety, negative affect, emotional exhaustion, decreased tone and life satisfaction. All this indicates that mothers and parents in general with children with autism spectrum disorder need psychological help and support. The study presents methods of providing psychological assistance to parents of children with autism spectrum disorder, used in other countries, and their effectiveness in reducing the level of depression, anxiety, stress and improving the quality of life and health of parents. As an example, the CST program is given as one of the ways to provide psychological support to mothers of children with autism spectrum disorder by teaching the correct ways to communicate with the child, ways to understand the behavior and undesirable behavior of the child. The practical significance of the study is to draw due attention to this problem and find new ways to provide psychological support to parents of children with autism spectrum disorder.
