This article deals with the problem of successful development of the communicative competence of cadets in the conditions of military education: attention is paid to the development of language competencies as a component of the communicative competence of future officers. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing need of society, the army for specialists - military personnel with appropriate competencies, primarily communicative and linguistic, which allow them to operate effectively in a multicultural environment and the definition of a holistic understanding of the phenomenon of communicative competence and its development in a multicultural environment.
The diagnostics of language competencies of future officers of a military university was carried out, which showed an insufficient level of formation of language competence and, consequently, communication skills. The results of the study indicate the need for additional measures in order to increase the level of formation of language competence.
