The question of identity is one of the most pressing in contemporary psychology. In recent years, this field has developed rapidly: new theoretical models have been proposed, and new questionnaires have been developed and widely used. The scope of research has also expanded significantly, encompassing not only the analysis of the relationships between processes, dimensions, and styles, but also developmental trajectories in identity formation, as well as its antecedents and consequences. Most of the models discussed in this article have been studied in detail in the past few years. New models of personal identity focus on how identity is formed (process-oriented models, identity styles), on the content of identity (narrative identity), or on a combination of both (for example, studying various domains of identity within a process-oriented paradigm). There is also a school of thought based on awareness of one’s own identity through the recognition of one’s own potential, which is called eudaimonic identity.
