Abstract

The aim of this study is to analyze the clinical and socio-demographic characteristics of adolescents based on the subtype of social phobia. It was attended by 120 teenagers who met the criteria for the diagnosis of social phobia (specific or generalized). The results show significant differences between subtypes, in the gender variable and in indicators related to anxiety, social avoidance, fear of negative evaluation and their correlates. These data are consistent with the results of other studies involving the adult population and provide useful information for research and clinical practice.

Socio-demographic and psychological features of social phobia in adolescence. The purpose of this study is to analyze the demographic and clinical characteristics of adolescents with social phobia, depending on the subtype. The sample included 120 adolescents with a diagnosis of social phobia (specific or generalized). The results show statistically significant differences between both subtypes of social phobia; both by gender and by each indicator assessing anxiety, social avoidance, fear of negative evaluation and other correlates. These data are consistent with the results of several studies involving the adult population and provide useful information for research and clinical practice.
